Our Readers' Views

I see where citizens who live in the Port of Vancouver's tax district are gathering signatures to place an initiative on the ballot to repeal the tax increase imposed by the port to buy industrial land. Here in Camas and Washougal, we may see a similar action by our port. However, our port will more than likely be asking to purchase waterfront land to hand over to RiverWalk, LLC, so they can build condominiums and retail shops for a ridiculously low lease- agreement.

I want to be the first to tell the Port of Camas-Washougal that I will oppose any new port taxes to purchase private land to promote RiverWalk, LLC. Further, because the port has committed millions of dollars in public assets toward a lease agreement that was not approved by the public, nor was the lease open for competitive bidding from other developers, might this contract be interpreted as gifting state assets?
